10 things i hate about this movie (actually 4, shut up)

10 Things I Hate About You is pretty popular movie, but honestly i kinda think it’s a crappy movie. kat stratford—a hyper feminist and bold girl—at one point of the movie FLASHES a teacher to get her boyfriend out of an ONE HOUR DETENTION. like, HUH?? WHAT ARE THE STAKES?? and the boyfriend, patrick verona, later praises her for it, saying something alone the lines of “not everyday you find a girl who flashes a teacher to get you out of detention” and actually patrick, you’re right! you don’t! why?? ITS DISGUSTING! ITS ILLEGAL!! AND JUST.. WEIRD!! plus, kat’s entire character contradicts this action, because she literally hates objectification of women. the scene just undermines her values to try and make a “romantic, sacrificial” scene but it just sucks and forces sexual shock value down your throat. 

then the girls dad (whos a gynaecologist, MIND YOU) makes the girls wear a pregnancy belly before they go out to a party or whatever so they feel the “weight of their consequences”. sorry, i just find that weird and super controlling? it was meant to be a gag, i can tell, but it just kind of centers the girls freedom around their supposed sexual activity.

there’s a scene where cameron is venting to bianca about how she’s being selfish and how she shouldn’t treat people like they don’t matter. you would think, in such a vulnerable moment, bianca would apologise and they would talk, but NOPE! she just straight up kisses him and then runs off. just completely invalidates his feelings, his vulnerable speech goes in one ear out the other, and they even show cameron celebrating with a fist pump after she left. HUH?? 

AND THE FINAL THING THAT PISSED ME OFF. a scene where kat reads her poem in class and it’s about missing patrick after she found out he dated her for a bribe and they obviously had a fight (the movie revolves around how he actually fell for her while they dated, as usual) and she cries during it. instead of making him earn her trust back, you just make her cry infront of her whole class over a guy who dated her for a bribe to show that she’s forgiven him. like what?? so instead of his shitty actions, it’s about her emotions so that he can get off with no consequences?? 

anyway, that’s all.. on the bright side, heath ledger was fine as HELL. and joseph gordon levitt can have my babies he is SO boyfriend. and please praise my somewhat witty title
