im not entirely sure why but my love for my chemical romance has been revived...i rewatched life on the murder scene and still knew it by heart, listened to them during my entire car ride today, made some themed kandi bracelets, and pulled out some of my vintage tees for old times sake. i feel like a part of me has come home because oh my goodness i feel so euphoric!
i think part of the reason i started to shy away from them wasn't really because of a change of heart, i'm thinking it was because of other people's influence. i don't live in an area with a lot of counterculture (let alone emo) people, so i was kind of alone in having that interest which felt isolating. additionally, as i started to get more into hardcore and made friends who were deep in the emo scene, it was almost embarrassing to constantly rep them? like yeah ur favorite band is this local underground band...mine is my chemical romance. sorry i guess. i'm not saying my friends are like this, but i tend to notice superiority complexes run deep in some counterculture spaces, and i didn't want anyone to think of me differently because i'm obsessed with such a mainstream band.
anyways, i think i think too much abt myself and if someone rlly does judge me for liking mcr then it's a them problem. i also don't think liking them takes away any "nicheness" about myself...do i still adore small emo/screamo/post-hardcore/hardcore bands? yes! is mcr my overall favorite? also yes! i read something somewhere that the music you listen to in your pre-teens/early teens defines your music taste for the rest of your life. i have no idea if that's true or not, but if it is, i'm so glad 15 year old me was based. i am not afraid to keep on living i am not afraid to walk this world alone or whatever michael romance said.
