23-8-26 Iman Europe

Another blog post about music. I listened to Iman Europe’s album Chrysalis, and it was really good. I had heard of her before, so I assumed she was pretty popular, but considering the quality of her music,  there is a shockingly low amount of streams on her spotify. The production quality of her MVs and albums and just her whole aesthetic give the impression that she’s just already been famous. She’s by no means unheard of, but I will definitely say that from what I heard, shes underrated. I feel like the strong spiritual and philosophical aspect of her songwriting led me to believe that she might have a bigger following, because I think there’s a lot of broad appeal there.

I decided to listen to the album because I saw the music video for her song “ego death” and I was blown away. The concept is very straightforward and theatrical which I love. I could not stop thinking about it after seeing it— it really left an impression.

I only listened to Chrysalis once while working on something else, so I’m still figuring out my impressions on the album as a whole. There were a lot of parts that jumped out at me and just felt memorable or unique. For example, I really liked the concept of the title track Chrysalis as well as of the following track Come and Get Me. The instrumentals on the song “Break”were also really enchanting, and in the featured artist TOBi’s verse there was a really cute  Sinners reference. I love her flow on a lot of tracks too, I think some of the ones that I liked were “homegirl to homegirl,” “Why” and “Masterpiece”. 

I’ll peruse through her discography and  the album again to hone in on what I really like. But I was really struck by the inital impression that her work left on me, so I wanted to talk a bit about it.
