If Mexico has its own GG Allin of techno, it's undoubtedly Silverio.
The self-proclaimed emperor of chaos.
The prehistoric DJ.
The half-naked prophet of bad taste.
Behind all that carefully orchestrated madness stands Julián Lede Casas, one of the most respected producers to emerge from Mexico's alternative music scene. Before becoming Silverio, he played an important role in projects like Titán alongside Jay de la Cueva.
Yes...
Most of those insults were completely unnecessary.
(Except the one about Jay.)
I'm pretty sure Silverio would approve.
Because refinement has never been the point.
A Silverio concert is a ritual built around nudity, profanity, cheap liquor, filthy beats and complete loss of dignity.
That's exactly why people love him.
Esclavo, his second studio album, perfectly captures that philosophy.
The production often sounds like it was made with the absolute minimum amount of effort...
...and somehow that's precisely what makes it work.
Using simple drum machines, samplers and raw electronic textures, Silverio creates music that's simultaneously ridiculous and strangely addictive.
Tracks like Gorila and Coqueta blend cumbia-inspired rhythms with aggressive electronic percussion, while Circunstación throws together samples ranging from the Ramones to Mexican exploitation cinema without asking permission from anyone.
Then come songs like Quémalo, driven by tribal rhythms, and Calambre Llanero, where deeper sampling and 808 programming unexpectedly reveal how much thought actually hides beneath the chaos.
The album even slows down briefly during Martillo and the title track before diving headfirst back into complete insanity with songs like El Rey del Hogar and El Iluminado.
And honestly...
Enough already, Silverio.
You're exhausting.
Exactly as intended.
PERSONAL CONCLUSIONS:
This is probably the least serious review I've written so far.
But that's exactly how it should be.
Silverio never wanted to be sophisticated.
He wanted to be uncomfortable.
Primitive.
Loud.
Ridiculous.
Completely free.
His influence still echoes through Mexico's harder electronic underground, inspiring artists working in Hard Techno, Electroclash and experimental electronic music.
