600 days

I have officially done 600 days of duolingo, that is 21 monsters. I got a monster for every hundred days, 100 = 1, 200= 2 etc etc. It was my rewards cuz my parents are proud of me and I like monster. And I spaced them out, I'm not an idiot, I didn't drink five monsters in a day. Now, what have I learned from these 600 days of learning German? Fuck all, that's what. If you gave me a simple sentence I could translate it with at least 70% accuracy but I couldn't read a whole book or speak it. Or even hear it, if you spoke German to me I could pick up a few words and make an educated guess, but I wouldn't understand 100% of it. I would not recommend duolingo if you're trying to learn a language to fluency, but it is a good revision tool if you want it alongside other resources, especially for children. Also let's not forget that they fired all the translators and replaced them with AI. That's why I'm quitting. And because I barely learned anything. So RIP streak, 24/2/2025 - 18/10/2026, you will be missed.

I actually am kind of sad to see it die because I started it right around when life started to suck even worse than it already did, and no matter what I woke up and did my German every morning. It's also how I learned chess, which makes me feel smart knowing the rules of chess. I've grown somewhat attached to it. That probably sounds stupid but idc.

OMG, I also do German on Duolingo, I’m on a 383 day streak! It’s true that you don’t really learn that much; I mostly use it for a bit of review since I take German classes at my institute, but I don’t want to stop now and lose my streak.
