new blog huh... awesome. i wanna touch on my awesome desk setup before this: 

i'll be doing all my review listening here, unless i don't own the cd or one doesn't exist then i'll listen to it on my puter.

anyway let's talk about the album! 

i listened to EOPE a couple months back and loved it. since then, i have gotten through the 3 other classic Jamiroquai albums on CD. through this i found it's a lot easier for me to listen to albums when i have them physically.

this is where this bad boy comes in!

i got it at a record store in Wrocław. it's on the path from the main station to the square i think, i've only been there once so far. it's very awesome! they also had Synkronized but i already had it so it didn't matter. (i need to wash this thing but i'm a little worried its condition will get worse.)

i listened to it before getting it but couldn't get myself to relisten. but now that it's as easy as putting the CD in the player and pressing a button, i couldn't help myself!

The Actual Review

this is the group's first album, and it's a signature. so many iconic songs. we start out with When You Gonna Learn, then immediately kick into Too Young To Die, probably a favorite, it's evergreen lyrically while keeping groovy at the same time.

more highlights include, well... every single song is a highlight for me. it's a pretty small album that is extremely well curated. my personal favorites are the aforementioned "Too Young To Die", then "If I Like It, I Do It", "Music Of The Mind", "Blow Your Mind", "Revolution 1993", and of course, "Didgin' Out". 

that last song starts a trend of tracks starring the titular instrument, the didgeridoo. "Journey To Arnhemland" on the succeeding album The Return Of The Space Cowboy expands on that one excellently and is my personal favorite out of all of them.

speaking of how it compares to the other albums, if i were to get someone into Jamiroquai, i would probably tell them to listen to this album first. it's a great introduction to their vibe and sound. from there, i guess Synkronized would go after, and then depending on which one they prefer they can either go for Travelling Without Moving if they prefer Synkronized or The Return Of The Space Cowboy if they prefer Emergency On Planet Earth. i was pretty neutral coming in so i listened to them in release order.

according to my usual system, i would give this album a 10/10. it's comparable to Synkronized, but i don't quite prefer this album over it.
