am i the poser

i understand what people mean when they say 'youre a poser if you call people posers' but  like can it not be so black and white pls.

i am pro accepting everyone in the alternative community ok. idgaf if you only like the most popular songs of a band, or if you dont want to style your hair a certain way if it makes you uncomfortable etc etc, the point of being in an alternative community is self expression, acceptance and embracing eachother's differences. the stupidest thing ive ever heard is someone calling someone 'not emo' because they werent wearing skinny jeans and didnt have black hair.

the difference though is when someone claims to be in a subculture but does not agree with the views or ideals of it. its purely just because its a trendy thing. 

the problem with people like that is that they take the most popular stereotypes of alternative people, copy and paste their look directly from someone else and claim to be part of a subculture. all of their clothes are likely fast fashion too.

the problem with these people is that they dont actually care about being alternative. right now its just 'the trend' to be different and 'alt'. the moment it goes out of style, theyre over with it as well. people like this also dont actually support alternative people that dont fit the 'expected look or personality' of non alternative people's idea of what alternative is. if someone is interested in something that isnt weird in a trendy way then they get made fun of. 

these are also the same people that sexualize deftones and the trending ptv songs on tiktok.

i have literally experienced people like this make fun of me for having a side fringe or for 'looking too depressed'. this is not me being a gatekeeper whatsoever. i will gladly welcome new people into the alternative community and accept everyone regardless of how much of a fan they are of something or whatever it is that people call others posers for.

all im saying, is if someone is obviously throwing on an affliction shirt and calling themselves alt but then judging others for dressing and liking different things, then its poser activity. i wont say it to their face because im not a bully, but im just saying...

this is a 4am rant, dont come at me lol
