You might be saying, no duh he was in one. But that’s not what I mean. I mean that before chapter 5 and probably even before deltarune, asgore already knew about the dark fountains. I think he had even entered one possibly multiple times.
I don’t know exactly how this would have happened. Maybe whoever the knight is showed him when they were first discovering it? Maybe he opened one because we see pretty much anyone can open one?
But I think he did because he has this weird familiarity about the dark world. He talks to the flowers like he already knows them. In fact, he encourages Kris to talk to the flowers in the light world and I know that can help plant growth but it seems weird to be like actively telling them to keep doing it. He doesn’t seem to have any haste to get home or confusion about what’s happening, and I guess flowery could have explained it but I still feel like you’d at least try to get home or rationalize it as a dream so nothing matters if you never were in a dark world before. But like not only does he not have any worries about getting home, he’s like trying to do some kind of work and he has concern when he hears Kris calling for help. If you were dismissing everything as a dream, you wouldn’t do that. And what made me first think of this theory is when asgore near the beginning of the game says like “I guess it is a different color” to himself, seemingly talking about his hair. You might be inclined to think that he’s confused about his dark form. But I think he’s saying that his dark form is different because this fountain was made by Kris while the other(s) were made by someone else, with a different will, which would lead to differences in the dark world like we see in chapter 4, most notably the colors.

I think you forget he was the king of the underground its not like this is all foreign for him he lived in a world not too different to the dark worlds for his whole life while you bring up some good points the familiarity to the dark worlds doesn't seem too crazy
