this shoot is about a year old. I went to the kitchen for a drink and saw him out there just now, doing whatever it is that he does. I don't emulate a very good tripod, apologies in advance.
That's a groundhog and not beaver. Still, very nice to have in your yard.

I'd never seen a groundhog before so that never hit me. some said maybe he's a muskrat but muskrats are not that big. didn't try to research it, just assumed it was a beaver but it seemed like it didn't really have the paddle tail. I'm not far from a good sized lake and a major river. he came up on the deck to the sliding glass door one day but i didn't have my phone on me, pretty good sized like he'd be difficult to lift.
Haha, yes, they're big chunky guys for sure. I get why you'd call him a beaver since you live near a lake and river. I'd love to have a groundhog visit my house like that, you're pretty lucky.
the mortgage is killing me. but I get so many visitors like that here that it's worth it, i see something new out of my back door almost every other odd day. i'm starting to identify a lot of the interesting birds. a week from october and still have swarms of hummingbirds buzzing around here.
Ah, my hummingbirds all migrated away this week, had a pair successfully nest in the yard this summer, and enjoyed seeing them at their hummingbird feeder all summer. I guess the interesting wildlife you see takes away from the pain of the mortgage.
i've been here about 3 years. that was one of the biggest reasons i chose the location, there is a lot of life around here. more ruby-throated hummingbirds than I've ever seen before, chasing each other around like star wars x-wing fighters. they usually take off in the first week of september, but we had that tidal wave of rain in these last several weeks here, a lot of the flowers are still blooming way beyond the norm so they haven't had a reason to leave yet.
