I think revealing mcee as Jew at the end was such a great move on the writers part I also really like how no one got a truly happy ending because when it comes to war and bigotry happy ever afters are few and far between and it plays so well into what the musical is trying to tell you its trying to tell you that no matter if you are part of the repressed minority or not that these ideologies are harmfully to everyone and runing away or turning your back just lets these people get stronger
