Children don't/can't participate in fandom spaces anymore and it's contributing to the literary crisis

Ranting yet again .. I'm really enjoying this actually ! I had this conversation with a friend of mine yesterday I believe ? 

Anyone who was in a fandom space in the 2010s - early 2020s is aware of apps / websites like Tumblr, Wattpad, Ao3, Amino, pretty much any place that was made for fandom spaces. You should also be aware that a LARGE amount of the content was produced by children-  especially when Gacha Life surfaced. 

Now, this is not to say that these spaces were 100% safe for these kids. I was in a lot of fandom spaces myself and I got involved with people and situations that I definitely should not have, which should definitely be taken into account. But I also can't sit here and say that things like this did not contribute to their social and literary skills. 

I never read books as a kid but I read the HELL out of 300k work fics. Yeah, some were smut and I shouldn't have been reading at 10 .. but most of my current vocabulary / knowledge of certain things derive from me being in fandom spaces. Critical thinking and analyzing comes from fandoms like FNAF that require you to watch videos, read the books, just generally learning about it DOES require a certain level of skill. 

So yes, I do believe that the lack of participation is contributing to the literacy crisis .. I'm also really fuckin tired and have no more thoughts on this (for now)
