I got this new piercing on my ear not long ago,a week now,and I was wondering how often I should clean it and how?i used just water and a q tip(is that how you spell it?),I do have this gel for it that they gave me,no idea what it does,doesn't really explain besides that it's an aftercare gel,anyway,it feels dirty to me,I don't know,I just know it can feel cleaner but I want to do it properly.
When I first got my ears pierced we used this cleaning solution we got,and it was for cleaning,you used a cotton pad and cleaned the area but this one just says to dot it on in the front of the piercing and the back of it and then twist the earing.so.....

I recommend cleaning it 3 times a day the first couple of weeks. Once in the morning/afternoon/evening. After that, for a couple months clean it twice a day, then once a day for a few months, and then you're good to clean them weekly. I clean mine weekly as to avoid smell and infection. As for the cleaner you'll want to do, I recommend antiseptic spray or a piercing cleaning spray. You can go to any piercing place and ask for piercing cleaner and they'll know what you're talking about and you can buy some. I recommend q-tips as you can really get between the jewelry and skin so you can clean it really well.
Once it's fully healed, so let's say a years time, you can take it out for a short time and really clean the jewelry by putting some piercing cleaner in a cup/the cap and swishing it around.
However, if you're really unsure, talk to your piercer and get their opinion on it as they are a professional and would know best. If you call them, tell them when you got the piercing and they'll be able to give you care instructions.
I also recommend to avoid putting in any other earring then the one you have in till at least a year into having the piercing. You will want to make sure it is fully healed and good to go, you could risk infection, keloids, or the holes closing up. So it's always better safe than sorry and to keep in the original jewelry you where pierced with.
