Close to the Edge - Yes review

I'm not sure if I reviewed this record before, maybe I did but I can't say. If I did, it probably sucked shit and likely didn't have anything special, so if it exists you should ignore it. Anyways this album fucking rules and I'd argue that it's probably the best representation of prog rock as a whole. The band is super tight and they all do a great job with their instruments, Bill Bruford is here and he's tied for my favorite drummer of all time so I'm very happy with his playing here. I'm not the biggest Yes fan in general so I have no idea what the other band members' names are besides Jon Anderson, but whoever the bass player is they're really really good. They have a dope ass tone and the riffs they play are phenomenal. The title track is a masterpiece, I think anyone familiar with it can at least see why I call it that, the band's on point and the melodies are super nice. The structure is also super fun so I never get tired of relistening to it, although its placement in the tracklist is kinda weird, I don't know why it's the first song here cos honestly I think it would've worked better as a sort of conclusion to the whole album but whatever, the tracklist doesn't really matter all that much. And You And I is a really nice song to come off of the title track, it's much chiller especially with the acoustic intro. The song's absolutely beautiful though, it also probably has the best vocals in the entire album, I keep forgetting how good it is but each time I come back to it I have a great time. Then there's Siberian Khatru, I'm gonna be honest it's probably the weakest track but that hardly means anything considering it's fucking great lmao. I'm just not that fond of the ending for the song but the rest is a BANGER, again I think the tracklist placement is kinda weird for it, I would've probably reversed the song order but whatever idc. The album is like the 2nd whitest thing made (first being a Quebecois hardcore band I saw live who'd rapped in the middle of their songs) but it's so good. Overall this is a record most people should check out at least once in their life, especially if they're already familiar with other 70s bands.
