You’re acting like Christianity is the only thing that makes people awful, and that’s just not reality. I’m not even Christian and I understand the reality is that people don’t need a belief system to act fucked up, humans in general can be awful all on their own. And saying "there’s no evidence so there’s no point in believing anything" doesn’t really make sense either. There’s no concrete proof for plenty of things people believe in..science theories still evolve, history gets rewritten, and half of society believes things based on personal experience, not hard evidence. So I don’t get this post. It feels like you’re blaming a whole religion for behavior that’s just… people being people No. Dont reduce scientific theories to 'well we cant ENTIRELY prove it, its just a theory!' Lets not confuse scientific theories with conspiracy theories that any tinfoil hat wearing joe can make up and spread around. Scientific theories have mountains of evidence behind them, supported by thousands of scientists who devote their entire LIVES to studying their fields. If every single scientific record and everyones knowledge of existing science disappeared today, we would rediscover the exact same things tomorrow. We would come to the same conclusions, and form very similar if not the SAME theories to the ones we currently rely on. Scientific theories are refined CONSTANTLY with new evidence. This does not mean that science is unreliable. This means we change our minds when we are presented with new evidence. Scientists challenge our existing knowledge, existing theories, and each other. Do you believe in gravity, do you believe that atoms exist, do you believe the earth revolves around the sun? Those are all theories, but you wouldnt compare that to someone saying the earth is flat, even though its 'jUsT a ThEoRy' now would you? Lets compare that to religion. What proof does anyone have for believing in god? Personal testimony, or just a feeling in their gut. Read, FAITH. Its literally called FAITH. Dont even try and compare that to scientific theories, with all their evidence and being proven time and time again. I literally dont give a shit if you believe in god, but you need to understand that belief in god because of your own experience is NOTHING EVEN REMOTELY COMPARABLE to an actual scientific theory. Faith cant be reliably tested. Never spread this stupid argument again. Comparing bullshit conspiracy theories or faith to actual scientific theories backed by evidence just leads to misinformation. This is how people get decieved and hurt. by pennstationofficial; ; Report 🤭You’re arguing against a point I didn’t make. I never said scientific theories are "just guesses" or equal to conspiracy theories... YOU added that yourself. Humans believe things for different reasons. Some beliefs come from evidence, some from experience, some from culture, some from faith. That doesn’t magically make people behave better or worse. You’re acting like I compared gravity to religion, when all I said was that people believe things without absolute proof all the time! Including scientific theories that get refined as new evidence comes in. That’s not an insult to science, that’s literally how science works. Blaming Christianity as the reason people act horrible is just wrong. People don’t need religion to be awful, and removing religion wouldn’t suddenly make humanity kind. You can dislike religion without pretending it’s the root cause of human behavior. So no... I’m not spreading misinformation. I’m pointing out that your friend’s post oversimplified human behavior, and your response is arguing with a version of my comment that you imagined, not the one I actually wrote.
by 🥀Melancholy Doll🥀; ; Report I wasnt arguing against your original point about 'christianity not being the reason for bad behavior', and i never said that part was spreading misinformation, so i dont know why you brought it up again. I did say "Lets not confuse scientific theories with conspiracy theories that any tinfoil hat wearing joe can make up and spread around." That was confusing, so ill say my point a bit more clearly. I meant that scientific theories are not comparable to proofless faith. At the end, I said "Comparing bullshit conspiracy theories or faith to actual scientific theories backed by evidence just leads to misinformation." I realize i brought up conspiracy theories again for no reason, so that was a mistake on my part. The reason i brought up conspiracy theories is because, like faith, they have flimsy or no evidence to support them. Now, what I was arguing in my original reply was this specific point you made: "And saying "there’s no evidence so there’s no point in believing anything" doesn’t really make sense either. There’s no concrete proof for plenty of things people believe in..science theories still evolve, history gets rewritten, and half of society believes things based on personal experience, not hard evidence." The original poster did not say that 'since theres not CONCRETE proof for god, you should not believe in one.' They said that there is no evidence whatsoever for god, so theres no point in believing in one. Its true that theres no evidence for god. There being 'no point' is a personal belief. Youre the one who brought up concrete proof. Youre the one who brought up scientific theories and compared them to faith. My entire argument was about how that is not a reasonable comparison whatsoever. To reiterate, there is plenty of evidence for all the widely accepted scientific theories, and no evidence for god. I never said that scientific theories have concrete proof. Literally nothing in the world has concrete proof for existing, so i obviously wasnt saying that. Lastly, you said: "Pointing out that humans don't need religion to be awful, and that human belief systems are complex, isn't "spreading misinformation." It’s stating reality. PLEASE GROW UP." I never said that youre spreading misinformation by saying humans are awful without religion. I never said that youre spreading misinformation by saying that human belief systems are complex. I never even said that youre spreading misinformation at all. I said that youre spreading a bad argument that leads to misinformation, which is true. Dont tell me to grow up. Youre the 35 year old whos arguing with a 15 year old on the internet. I sincerely do not mean to be hostile. I realize my original reply came off that way, and for that i apologize. by pennstationofficial; ; Report I never said christianity is the only thing that makes people awful however it is an excuse to do horrible things such as be homophobic, be sexist, be racist. Also you’re arguing scientists are wayyy dumber than they actually are, in 2000 years of people being Christian there is no direct evidence god is even real however there is an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting evolution. Please do your research. |
