Beautiful breakdown of what led you down this path in life, I especially dig how supportive your dad was about your interest in insects and then your debatably unconventional trajectory into recognized expertise

Passion like this is beyond admirable, even commendable and I'm glad that the world of entomology continues to offer you new experiences; I hope you get to discover more of Ontario in this unique way

Thank you, man.  Thankful that dad supported it, through all his own intense personal problems, he still tried, and I'm grateful for it.

Too few bug excursions into Québec, sadly.

I think you'd like Australia, there's a lot of interesting, spooky insects here.

Side note, the fear of spiders is very common, especially here but I've finally gotten over it!

Oh you bet I would love Australia. It's on my bucketlist to visit Australia. You guys have the most amazing insects/arachnids/plants/birds/everything.  One of my coworkers is Australian (from Perth) and when she visits home she sends me hundreds of photos of things she sees. Always so envious.

Very happy to hear that you've overcame the fear of spiders.  Not many can say that, but overcoming comes with understanding these animals, and they are very very misunderstood.

Do let me know if you end up here! I'd love to know where you'd stay, I didn't really realise how big Australia is until we did more travelling, it truly is a gorgeous place.

I actually have a pretty sikk photo of this huge huntsman that ended up in my old apartment, I think huntsman spiders are the reason I slowly overcame such a silly fear :p

Oh yeah, it'll probably years from now if I ever get down there.  I initially always wanted to go to Western Australian during the spring (desert wildflower spring bloom = insect explosion). But it's proving difficult to choose where, because as you said, AUS is huge and there's so much variation everywhere.  I could probably go anywhere there and be put into a state of paralytic fascination with all things.

Huntsmen are like the muppets of the spider world I think.
