Addiction is something that inhibits your everyday life and impacts your daily life. For example, an addiction to alcohol will cause withdrawl, impact relationships, daily tasks, and inhibit the person from being able to function daily without it.

The National Institute of Drug Abuse states it as, and I quote, "Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing disorder characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite adverse consequences.† It is considered a brain disorder, because it involves functional changes to brain circuits involved in reward, stress, and self-control. Those changes may last a long time after a person has stopped taking drugs.11".

Addiction is very complex and goes beyond just not being able to live without it, it has to impact your daily life, relationships, and a variety of other factors. Typically, addiction happens without purposefully seeking it. Some people get addicted to things due to their environment, family history of addictive personality traits, mental health, or even traumatic events.

I would say, if you feel you are addicted to something, reach out to a professional and discuss with them if it is an addiction and what you can do to treat it.
