I'm 23 going on 24. I never did any of that stuff, either. Even at adulthood, I'm under a strict curfew and can't go anywhere outside without telling my mom. In retrospect, all those 2000's tweencoms and cartoons really painted an unrealistic picture of what adolescence was gonna be like for everybody but a veeery specific handful of kids. Almost no teen was gonna be able to have their own successful livestream, attend extracurriculars, be popular enough to gain heir own friend group who also happen to live close enough nearby that they can always hang out. |

the media sold this idea that teens will experience a wild teenhood, filled with parties, diverse relationaships of all sort and chaotic adventures nowadays most teens (and young adults, and kids and... babies, soon enough) spend a lot of their free time on the internet, phone or games also people have... maybe become more unwelcoming and basic, which makes making friends you actually relate to, that are capable to understand and respect you, basically a decent being, is a hard task also teens nowadays tend to deal with mental things, since they experience puberty, which messes with things on a physical and psychological level, where they start to be more conscious regarding their surroundings and people, which can also led to them experiencing a lot of emotions, which can overwhelm them on a mental level so this'll be what I'll say when my kids (if I'll ever have any) ask me about my teenage years |

It's odd all of this, because my puberty hit early and has practically stopped making itself known now, but all those portrayals of adolescence are still so extravagant and hard to miss that you can't help but notice. Have you ever observed anything similar during your own teenage years? Because even my mother went through her share of youthful craziness, if that's the right way to put it.

my youth was... shallow at best
it was just me and myself
this loneliness and self isolation harmed more than any physical harm could do
also ofc adolescence is overexaggerated in hollywood, it's so they could milk money off nostalgic boomers
