Anyone that calls almost any plant a weed is just totally disconnected from nature, and our ancestral human knowledge. Some facts about the big bad weed the dandelion: 1. Leaves are great as salads 2. The flowers can be used to make jams 3. The flowers can be used to make wine 4. The roots contain resveratrol an important herbal medicine for treating things like lyme disease. 5. They are calcium pumps which bring calcium from lower in the soil back up to the surface for other plants to thrive. 6. They break up heavy clay soil and make it so that nitrogen fixing bacteria can fertilize the soil for free just using the atmosphere's non plant soluable nitrogen. 6.b. The breaking up of heavy clay soils also makes those soils drainable so plants don't get root rotted and can live! Lawns that are COVERED in dandelions will have significantly less every year that they are allowed to live, because they repair and change the soil conditions so that other important plants can grow! 🤓 A natural lawn that isn't sprayed with toxic chemicals that kill life and slowly harm humans will regulate itself into a diverse beautiful environment almost always over a handful of years. :) |
