Ooh! Thinkpads are amazing to work with! 💯

If you ever decide to work on the PCs again, look into running a little DNS or an Adblock server. HTML5 or a retro web server is also viable. Most routers that are running OpenWRT on the market can run on 2GB and less at times so you can also have it as your VPN too using Tailscale or Zerotier. Running it without a desktop enviroment could save you the bloat in memory usage.

If you can find a way to keep those Thinkpad from going to E-Waste, then more props to you! The second one gives me nostalgia "Frutiger metro" vibes.
