Yep...Some people just didn't have anyone or anything introducing them to alternative music, so they just are normies n go 4 other interests. And all they ever like is dictated by Tiktok. It's kinda weird if they just say they like 2 artists but let's break those 2 down:

While Taylor Swift is definitely a pop singer, that doesn't necessarily mean her songs have no emotion, because from what I've heard, the "relatable" lyrics of her songs are the reason she has such loyal following of "Swifties". Is it mainstream though? Most probably so.

As 4 Eminem...That guy is loooong out of his league tbh. I remember how in like 2013 he had beef with a FAN (Tyler, the creator) who said his new album isn't the shit (for lack of better term), that was 13 years ago. The only rise I've seen of him in the L8est decade is like two years ago by two incidents: 1) Some girly on tiktok was covering his song "Mockingbird" and it became so viral and popular even the local 9 yos couldn't stop singing it like that and swore they are a fan of his. 2) He released a new album with one song specifically dissing gen Z with a really bad pun and for some reason some gen Xers took that as a "Our great leader has declared 'war' on a different generation for no particular reason and now we have to put on a Facebook filter and talk about how we are the superior generation without really having a plan for a 'war' because there isn't one" (I wish I was joking about this). So by the time that happened, even the bird covering his "Mockingbird" decided to mock him. Also seeing someone stan Eminem as a person knowing how problematic he sometimes was, that's kinda off. Like yeah his music (specifically the 2000s things that keep his monthly listener count alive) is really good imo and a good start 4 ppl who wanna get in2 hiphop. And people know that...Which is why yeah he's kinda mainstream especially since he's one of the biggest people to make the genre mainstream.

ย Though I have a friend who refuses to let go of being a fan of his since she's like 7 and she has posters and shi, and I think that if u have dedication towards the music u like idrc it's "bland". Even our goat Avril Lavigne was once seen as a poser because she makes *POP*-punk and at a few points her music was hella popular, yet we still look up 2 her regardless.

I'd define basic listening as listening without caring about the artist, lyrics or genre. Or simply listening to things because they're popular and u just so happen to be one of the 3/4 the population of tiktok who can bear the song

yah i see what u mean its usually just the majority of girls i talk to that only know like 5 artists with their main being tay swift is that they dont really get in depth with the lyrics as far as i know, the coworker i talked to i asked like "whats ur fav song of tay swifts and like the implications and stuff" cuz i dont listen to tay as much so i wanna know what all her music is like and whenever i ask this i usually get "i dont really care about that i just listen to the music" so its like little to no depth or emotion is put into the music and thats what i kinda mean but yeah her music does have dramatic themes, its just that ppl i talk to dont care abt that ig lol

How is that even possible, it's like getting a chocolate coated popsicle, eating off the chocolate and dropping the rest on the ground. MADAM, what are you doing, that's a delicious friggin bubblegum flavoured ice cream and u ditch that? I can't just understand this apathy towards something so good. Who else is gonna make u feel better about yourself at X am if not the writer of the music u like which has deep enough meaning?
