Yeah my town has gotten similar over the years. They host a single halloween event at my school but nobody really talks about it. Honestly I just hit up my friends and we head to a halloween festival a couple towns away

I think we’re pushing holidays comedically but not communally. There’s a fair amount of Halloween stuff in stores but barely anyone is actually hyped about it because we’ve lost the ability to come together and agree to something as a community. I think social media has also made it so that everyone is lazy and don’t want to be judged in any way, or seen as anything outside of the archetype of ‘cool/normal’ laid out for them, so we don’t get all crazy about Halloween anymore and we don’t actually put up stuff.

I think with how commercial everything is nowadays, we generalise a lot of things so they are favoured and therefore invested in/bought by the public, so we’ve made Halloween be something that is a lot more generic than it should be just so it’s more appealing to a general audience.

Christmas is being pushed onto us right now too, and I think it’s disgustingly early and completely takes away from the joy of Halloween. Everyone is more focused on what they’re going to do in December right now. But that means that they’ll be exhausted of Christmas by the time it actually comes around!

A lot of over-generalisation has killed Halloween, basically. It’s not the same at all. But I do believe some people including myself are properly celebrating it (I’m gonna cosplay Frankenstein’s Monster and Jon from TMA and I’m gonna carve pumpkins later)
