if you collect friends, it helps for you to have some substance, to create engaging content that people will interact with, because at least then, all them randoms may transition from randoms into ppl you bond with |

Because they aren't trying to have a meaningful REAL connection with you. You are just a number to a friend collector. Now you friend them and you get all these extra alerts and things it just clogs up your notifications and can make it harder to engage with your friends/content you care about. |

you know what, that's totally true. but there are also people in that category ("friending a whole bunch of people") who might just be trying to find friends/content related to things they care about. maybe 20 billion ppl are related to smth you care about, yk? i totally understand the inconvenience. it's probably just because of the negative side of the spectrum of results that the action itself is viewed super negatively in general. thanks gigachad
