>>> "I have a desire to be more literate. Read more books, think more. I've attempted to quit watching short-form content and look at the world more critically because it makes me feel like a person. But, then again, I will be isolated. I will have no one in my real life to talk to. I won't know the references that seem to make up most conversations; I'll be out of the loop. Alone."

I am one of those people who is out of the loop, 'isolated', as you say. Short form content is not something I ever consume and I am, as much as I possibly can be, offline. Being out of the loop, in my experience and in my opinion, is freeing. It forces those who ARE in the loop to actually, properly, explain to you why certain jokes are funny or what they actually mean. It forces critical thinking, in a sense.

I find a certain, subtle joy in making people explain references to me that I have never heard of and seeing them internally panic when they realise they don't really know what it is they're talking about either. Makes people think more deeply about the things they mindlessly consume.

Perhaps what I'm saying makes no sense, but in my eyes, there's joy in the 'isolation' that comes with not being a mindless media consumer.
