Hey so this has a really easy fix 

"Hey! I was wondering if you could please text me to ask before calling. I don't like to call very often" 

Boom, just say that

I had this issue with a friend before, and I asked my friend to call only after she asked! And it worked, no more random calls

And we don't call very often, but she knows we are still friends, and we still text and everything 

Communication goes an insanely long way

Honestly I don’t think ur the one in the wrong. What if ur actually doing smth rlly important and he calls? Then you can’t focus, and it’s just kinda rude to keep persisting even when you’ve spelt out an answer for him
