firstly, donât frame your procrastination as something youâre doing wrong that needs to be disciplined. thatâll make everything you want to push yourself to be able to do feel like a chore and sometimes even a punishment. you have to be patient with yourself. introduce what you have/want to do to yourself slowly, in bite sized and digestible pieces. for example, with schoolwork, letâs say you have an essay to write. even if you canât work on writing the actual paper, do some brainstorming here and there during the time before itâs due. that way, even if you canât get yourself to actually write it until the night before, youâll have all of the pieces you need in order to actually create something substantial and decent. for hobbies, you mentioned drawing and guitar. the moment you feel even the smallest fleeting urge or thought of âi havenât drawn in a while,â or âmaybe i should practise a few chords,â DO IT. immediately. literally drop whatever youâre doing in the moment and go do it. even if itâs just doodling or playing a scale for 15 minutes. donât force yourself to do it until you feel burnt out, thatâll just restart the whole procrastination cycle. the hardest part of forming a routine is getting it started. letâs say you donât know what to draw, maybe. donât let that be an excuse for you to put down your art tools and give up. literally draw WHATEVER comes to mind. is it an apple? cool, draw an apple. a friend? try drawing them. a character? draw that. a feeling you want to challenge yourself to turn into a picture? try it! donât push yourself to start and finish something in the same day. quality over quantity. i know youâve probably heard this a million times, but rome wasnât built in a day; but it didnât fall in a day, either. it was built over an extensive period of time and became one of the most prominent empires in history that we still know of and acknowledge to this day. imagine how quickly it would have all gone to shit if it was formed in just 24 hours. youâve got this. good luck! đ |

Yo, now you've given me a reason to think about my manias. Like, I can really start having an episode of mania and I can be interested in some things and make plans, but then suddenly forget about it đ„ |

of course iâm just an old man passing down my wisdom like a baton. but honestly it took a long time of trial and error to be able to figure this out, so donât be so harsh on yourself. even if society is pressuring you to get your ass in gear or whatever and get things done NOW NOW NOW, youâre not a machine, youâre a person. you donât need to function like a factory just because the world around you is so corporate-minded. you are the key to your own success, donât burn yourself out by overthinking and worrying about being a procrastinator before you even get started. go at your own pace, and also, one last piece of advice for school: obviously donât do it the day itâs due or even the day before, but if you know itâs going to be something you need some extra time to prepare for, let your teachers know, and ask for a small extension. if youâre honest and show that you genuinely care about putting in the effort to create something of high quality, you might get some extra leniency.Â
