firstly, don’t frame your procrastination as something you’re doing wrong that needs to be disciplined. that’ll make everything you want to push yourself to be able to do feel like a chore and sometimes even a punishment.

you have to be patient with yourself. introduce what you have/want to do to yourself slowly, in bite sized and digestible pieces.

for example, with schoolwork, let’s say you have an essay to write. even if you can’t work on writing the actual paper, do some brainstorming here and there during the time before it’s due. that way, even if you can’t get yourself to actually write it until the night before, you’ll have all of the pieces you need in order to actually create something substantial and decent.

for hobbies, you mentioned drawing and guitar. the moment you feel even the smallest fleeting urge or thought of “i haven’t drawn in a while,” or “maybe i should practise a few chords,” DO IT. immediately. literally drop whatever you’re doing in the moment and go do it. even if it’s just doodling or playing a scale for 15 minutes. don’t force yourself to do it until you feel burnt out, that’ll just restart the whole procrastination cycle.

the hardest part of forming a routine is getting it started.

let’s say you don’t know what to draw, maybe. don’t let that be an excuse for you to put down your art tools and give up. literally draw WHATEVER comes to mind. is it an apple? cool, draw an apple. a friend? try drawing them. a character? draw that. a feeling you want to challenge yourself to turn into a picture? try it!

don’t push yourself to start and finish something in the same day. quality over quantity. i know you’ve probably heard this a million times, but rome wasn’t built in a day; but it didn’t fall in a day, either. it was built over an extensive period of time and became one of the most prominent empires in history that we still know of and acknowledge to this day. imagine how quickly it would have all gone to shit if it was formed in just 24 hours.

you’ve got this. good luck! 👍

of course i’m just an old man passing down my wisdom like a baton. but honestly it took a long time of trial and error to be able to figure this out, so don’t be so harsh on yourself. even if society is pressuring you to get your ass in gear or whatever and get things done NOW NOW NOW, you’re not a machine, you’re a person. you don’t need to function like a factory just because the world around you is so corporate-minded. you are the key to your own success, don’t burn yourself out by overthinking and worrying about being a procrastinator before you even get started. go at your own pace, and also, one last piece of advice for school: obviously don’t do it the day it’s due or even the day before, but if you know it’s going to be something you need some extra time to prepare for, let your teachers know, and ask for a small extension. if you’re honest and show that you genuinely care about putting in the effort to create something of high quality, you might get some extra leniency.

Yo, now you've given me a reason to think about my manias.

Like, I can really start having an episode of mania and I can be interested in some things and make plans, but then suddenly forget about it đŸ„€

There’s this app called sincerely that helps me a lot. It’s basically anonymous public diaries where u can talk about your problems or feelings. Everyone is super helpful and understanding, hearing encouraging words from other people gives me willpower, so its a suggestion:)

Thank you so much!! I'll look into it<3
