cores aesthetics are JUST capitalism mumbo jumbo i’m so sorry. I’m sick of people talking about grungecore or emocore or kawaii aesthetic just SAY STYLE 😭😭😭 or vibe even or FASHION USE THE WORD FASHION. sorry this topic makes me VERY ticked off. please listen to my rant it’s very important
And then these words are just “identity” words… which are bs for “i’m gonna make you buying my drop shipped child labor junk with my brand name slapped all over it and think that’s who you are and that defines you”
i’d even say poser is a bs term too the way it’s most commonly used. Like dude the way brands have an “identity”
like think of these brands and the people you associate it with:
hollister: preppy y2k
hot topic, spencers : emos scenes
vans, zumies: skater
lululemon: preppy girls
and you may catch yourself saying “oh but that’s because they sell ___ type of clothes there” LIES. clothes are JUST clothes. brand names DONT define you. big billion dollar companies are milking your insecurity and need for belonging!!!! stop trying to find ur “core” or “aesthetic” BE YOURSELF!!! or just be a mindless slave to rich pedophile billionaires i guess…
especially if you have heard when ppl say “if no one was insecure, makeup companies would go out of business.” it’s the same way with this culture of “you need to buy this brand if you are this thing”. if you really hate billionaires then i really think it’s dumb to follow these weird predatory identity labels. A billion dollars company will never understand a normal every day human, so stop pretending like any of this means anything
moral of the story:
wear what you want, respect your peers for dressing how they want, and be yourself for sure girl

this is so true, most ppl are way too obcessed with asthetics and its so sad how most of them started out as having ideology behind them and now its just about overconsumption, it really is sad. i dont think the problem is in the words tho, cuz like i know a lot of ppl who dont have any specific asthetic that still overconsume, i think its more about how ppl are addicted to the dopamine hit they get from shoping and how many ppl dont have a long term sense of joy that they can get from like achievements or inner peace and stuff like that so they rely on cheep bursts of joy they feel from getting something new. Anyway thanks for the blog post.
TOTALLY u bring up a rlly good point. I hate the terms more in a way that it makes this consumption seem like a necessity to “belong” in a way which does in turn increase useless consumption of garbage.
i think at least spreading how predatory these terms are can at least make more people realize that consumption and branding for identity is NOT normal

oh yes in that sense i completely agree, u bring up a good point of how ppl think they need to fit a certain asthetic in order to belong cuz a sense of belonging would give them seretonin which a more stable form of joy that doesn't lead to addiction unline dopanime. and yes i think starting conversations about these terms is really important in helping ppl realize the problematic nature of overconsumption. thanks for what u do :)
