Dunkleosteus appreciation post!

Okay so, when I was in high school I was part of a club called Science Olympiad and it was full of stem nerds who competed like two times a year to see who was the nerdiest and it was great. My two categories that I always did were fossils and forensics, to the point where I'd usually coach my partner on how it would go if they were new, since I'd done it upwards of 4 times. But my favorite fossil of all time that I found while researching for the competition was Dunkleosteus

It was a type of armored fish that had armored plates IN ITS EYES!!! How cool is that?! On top of that we originally though it's body was long and shark-like (the fossils are almost always just the head-plates) but we later figured out that it had more of a tuna-like body, which is like, one thousand times scarier. Tuna can be going over 60 mph and get like an inch from the surface of the water and not cause even a ripple above water. They're terrifyingly fast, muscular, and agile, and they could probably kill you if you got hit with one going full speed bc they're also very big. Now stack an armored head and teeth that are engineered to slice things clean in half and it's a horrifying thought

My other fav fossil is the heliocoprion, which I'll probably do another appreciation post for :D
