DOWNLOAD OLD MOVIE MAKER TUTORIAL 2026

SINCE A FEW PEOPLE ASKED HOW I DID IT, HERE'S HOW!

First, download old movie maker here. This link is working as of July 2026, apologies to anyone in the future if it ever breaks. 

!! please always be wary of scam ads that say 'download here' when using any site, and make sure you click on the real download !!

Then right click on the downloaded file on your PC, go to properties -> compatibility.

Tick the box where it says 'run this program in compatibility mode for:' and select Windows 7. If you don't have this option I recommend doing the compatibility troubleshooter for your PC to detect which version of windows is best to run it through (this is what I did). It should appear in your PC programs, then, even if it doesn't open you can find it by searching Windows Movie Maker on your PC.

Now it's downloaded, there's one issue.. video formats. Even using an old Nikon Coolpix, I had to look into how to actually get movie maker to accept the video as an actually addable video. Download the K-Lite codec pack here and install.

Restart your movie maker, also look through the options on your K-Lite app to see what formats are there, and it should work at least it does for me using .WMV format (you can easily convert your video to this format online anyway on various sites, like the one here for MP4 to WMV).
