Why did Microsoft have to release the 360's so early

Seriously getting pissed that my Halo 4 360 keeps getting RRoD'ed

I know its an old console, but if Microsoft hadn't released the 360's so early there wouldn't be as many issues

but noooooooo they just had to beat the ps3...

Interestingly they had a design contest sorta thing with contractors or something if I'm remembering correctly and since it was the original design that largely caused the red ring then it makes you wonder what would have happened if they had picked another design.
