❤︎ i just want to preface that i also enjoy tiktok & i am inspired by a lot of things i see on tiktok, but i wanted to talk about something that i think is a little silly ❤︎
i've been seeing more often lately people wanting to be "analog" or have more analog hobbies, which i think is great and its something i am progressively working towards, i don't want to doomscroll either! but i see that one of the ways that ppl r saying to be analog is to buy tiktok shop ipods, cd players, and digital cameras, i think this is really silly, considering these products are mass produced slop, break easily, function only for a short time because the company doesn't expect you to actually use it more than a few times... they're also more expensive than buying a secondhand true Y2K gem, and if you are skeptical because it's secondhand, i just want to say that i have had a lot of success with buying tech secondhand, reasonably priced, and as long as you read descriptions and make sure its working, you should have little to no problems!
my cameras, ipods, cd player, dvd player, iphones, are ALL secondhand, working, and if it matters to you, true to the decade!
❤︎ i plan on making a post soon about all of the old tech that i still use ❤︎
TLDR; ❤︎ buy your tech secondhand and stop buying poor quality tiktok shop slop ❤︎

would you also consider going on tiktok just to brag about how "XD quirky analog 2000 frutiger aeroemoscenenightcorekid" you are, and how you're "not like the other girls" hypocrisy? idk if i'm just rambling but it seems like it to me
in my opinion, if you want to be true to analogging? consider cutting back on short-form content. but i'm just an alien :3
the reason i prefaced that i am also on tiktok was to avoid comments like this, it is to make the point that i am not trying to say i am above anyone and im not being a pick me lol, the point of my post is to create awareness that we can be better about the things we are consuming, unfortunately not everyone is ready to take a giant leap and go full analog
edit: the point of my post also isn't about how to be more analog than someone else its about how to have better consumption when it comes to buying things that are basically modeled after older things that still exist, work, and are readily available in excess on the secondhand market

that's entirely fair. i'm sorry i didn't interact with this post in good faith, and going forward i'll think more carefully about the things i say.

So True!! I've been analog for the past four weeks. I've been using a Barbie Flip Phone that I had gotten during the Barbie movie whole merch thing and never used until now. A voice recorder I was using for my voice journal ended up being great for putting mp3 of songs I like on it. My DVD player is from goodwill. I think it's so good to take a look at what you may already have as well. I also feel like people have such weird checklist for going analog, like it's better to buy what you need rather than buying a digital camera you will never use. lol
luv!! im currently looking for a dvd player for my tv while thrifting because i have a portable one^^ i also recently found my iphone and gameboy from my childhood, and both working!!

this is so true. people are turning going analog into another trend that promotes overconsuption, which is like the opposite of the point. im very lucky that my mom kept all her tech from the 2000s, so now i have multiple digital cameras and ipods from that time that still work great.
exactly!! some of my tech is from my childhood but ive also gone on to collect older tech as a hobby^^ thats why i feel like i can vouch for it because it is literally better ❤︎ its awesome you have it!!

TEACHER I HAVE A QUESTION‼️‼️
Where do u reccomend we look for secondhand tech (☞゚ヮ゚)☞
ive had success on ebay, mercari, and poshmark ❤︎ if u are looking for something specific i would check all 3 and compare prices, and don't be afraid to send offers!!

THIS!! seeing people buy ipods, cd players, cd drives, even digicams off places like tiktok shop is so incredibly heartbreaking!! i dont know if this is considered a “hot take”, but the main focus of analog and physical media’s comeback should be buying secondhand OR just using old media you already have… it’s also quite hypocritical to act tired of the worlds current market for devices and wanting to bring back the quality and functionality of old media, when you resort to buying off tiktok shop
no notes diva! ❤︎ i think its important especially for younger gen to hear, i don't think the intentions are bad but if ppl truly want "y2k vibes" then there's nothing more y2k than buying things directly from that time!
