iPod Revival

i recently rebooted my family's old iPod 4th Gen monochrome. the poor thing has only 4GB of memory. but it's packed with my parents' old songs.

they gave me permission to clear the playlists if i wish and add my own tracks.

i wanted to escape the algorithms, ads, AI and lack of media ownership that our modern apps and services (such as Spotify) bring. i feel like nowadays we don't own anything anymore.

anyone here also using older tech? :3 if so, pls say hi and share what you've been up to if u want! we need to bring back media ownership and get rid of subscriptions!

Hi!!! A 5.5 gen iPod user here! I have had mine for almost a year now, since I got it for Christmas last year. Its such a good device, I have around 1,200+ songs now and I only used around 1/5 of its memory, I hope that you can download a bunch more songs that you enjoy on it! It really opens your eyes to how subscriptions rlly do make the music listening experience more closed in and limited. I hope you enjoy ur iPod and it lasts for many years to come!

thanks for your comment! that sounds so relieving to know you’ve enjoyed using it :] my main worry is that i don’t have storage on the iPod for all the songs i want to download onto it, but in retrospect I might be able to manage.

After checking, mine is an iPod mini, 4GB, monochrome display. ofc not the most powerful model out there but good enough for me :]

Oh that’s nice! Even with four gigs I’m sure that if u compress enough songs u should roughly fit around 90-100 songs, and then just rotate between em. It’s what I’ve seen people do with the square shuffle lol
