The Myspace revamp or whatever you want to call it is not going to be what everybody is expecting it to be!

"The owners of Myspace, Tim and Chris Vanderhook, have confirmed plans for a future platform relaunch. It will lean into classic nostalgia like the "Top 8" and custom profiles, but it aims to adapt to modern anti-algorithm preferences rather than strictly copy the 2000s site"

The sad thing about that is it'll be just like spacehey and here and all the other Myspace knockoffs where you can't send unlimited friend requests. They're going to put a cap on it and hopefully it's a little more generous than the other sites! I really hope it's not like Tumblr where you can't have an invisible playlist or whatever playing on your profile blog whatever. They even said in one article that the Myspace now is not what used to be and I'm just nervous that they won't capture the essence very well. Let's hope they get this thing right and better yet have a separate site for 18 plus and then the kiddos on another or something because you know predators...

My read of SpaceHey (and why this new MySpace will fail) is, yeah, part of it is that it doesn't have all the features that the OG MySpace had such as being able to search anywhere and look for anyone. Like if I wanted to find people my age in Norway and talk to them, I could do that back then. Most of my MySpace friends, well, maybe half, were utter randos and it was great. That's impossible on SpaceHey.

But also people are different now. Facebook has conditioned everyone to think that you can only really talk to people you know personally irl, unless you're making snarky comments at them on some post or something.

There also seem to be more predators now than there were in the 90's and 2000's or that they're more organized now anyway. MySpace was what it was partly because it was open and not locked down at all, and you can't do that on a modern platform.

Yeah it's a weird, these disparate age bands here and it was like that on SpaceHey too. There's people under 25 and people 35 and up and neither group seems to think the other belongs there and it's this bizarre thing where the site doesn't actually have a culture but these groups of utterly different people doing completely different things.

There probably should be a setting for people under 18 to where adults can't even see them and vice versa unless they've been friended or something.

There is no friend request cap here

Actually that I noticed but in the beginning I did have a cap I sent like 10 and then I got Zucked then after that I've been smooth sailing
