Omg guys, I have to admit something. Okay? Ready? Are you listening~?
I LOVE OTOME GAMES!
Okay so if you're not a weeb- (Or if you are one but you're not into girly stuff)
An Otome game is a game that was designed with the desires and interests of young girls/women in mind. Which is why the Japanese word for young ladies is used.
Otome games are primarily dating simulators, which I LOVE. TO DEATH.
I got hooked on Otome games ever since I started playing the Shall We Date? series on my mom's iPhone 4. Mobile Otome games were the cutest things ever! But you know what's so unfair? THEY SHUT DOWN THE SERVERS FOR ALL THE SHALL WE DATE? GAMES! So now I can't even play it for nostalgia's sake. And I def can't redownload it on my mom's old phone. That thing won't even turn on...
But more importantly! Why do I like Otome games?
Uh, duh? I'm a hopeless romantic? I like the romance genre, a lot??? I'm actually super girly, which is weird because my friends are always surprised when I show that I like dress-up games or dating games for girls. I guess it's because I have no sense of manners? But still, I am a woman. Again, a really girly one, so it's okay if you're a lady and don't care about romance at all! I would never judge you for that~! Hugs for the ladies! ^^
But really, there's something just so teeth rottingly sweet about seeing people find their true love. It's not always about self-inserting into the protagonist's life or simping over the cute love interests. Sometimes I just really ship the people together, or I get a giddy feeling seeing a person realize how warm life can be when you share it with someone you love!
It makes me feel... complete. I think that love is something that everyone should feel, even the people that I can't stand. ^v^
Does anyone want any Otome game recs? I know more about the PS Vita games than any other console, so ask away~!

I LOVE OTOME GAMES TOO!!!!!!!! pretty much any game that has a romance aspect, i luv. i used to play the shall we date games also, and i'm still upset about how they closed. it's the same company behind the obey me series, there's no way they wouldn't have enough money to keep it running... but whatevs. i'm currently playing through hakuoki right now on my ps vita :D
u're so right about otome games though, they're all about the heartwarming and sweet moments n the little things... this world can be so bleak sometimes, knowing that there's someone by your side (romantic or not) can mean everything.
(they're not otome games specifically, but the romance aspect is why i also got totally obsessed with dynasty warriors empires games back in early high school. strategy AND cute guys??? sign me up. also the food fantasy and tale of food mobile games for a while. cute guys and food are a good combo, too.)
Ooo! Speaking of games that have a romance mechanic even if that's not the main focus of said game, what do you think of the Fire Emblem Series? I'm playing Fire Emblem Fates right now, and it's soooo much fun! ^v^
Oh! And also, if you're playing Hakuoki, I did have a question about that. Should I play the PSP version first? Or the PS Vita version? Because I have both, and I worry about starting the sequel by mistake.

i haven't really played fire emblem before, i didn't even know it had a romance mechanic! it's cool to hear that it's fun though, maybe i have to check it out myself~
iirc, the ps vita game kyoto winds is pretty much a remake of the first psp game (demon of the fleeting blossom), but improved and with more content!!! so if you got that one, you should be good. but if the vita one you got is edo blossoms, you should play the psp one first :3

I will be fair here and say that: I have, not even once when my parents gave me a GameCube, a PowerMac G4, and a Sony Vaio computer running Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux 8.04, have ever played a single Otome/Dating sim games (like actual real ones. I have zero idea if DDLC even counts despite it being a subverted parody in a dark twist).
Though the pain you’re sharing about old games that were on the ye olden days of the iPhone 4 is so fucking real because WHAT DO YOU MEAN I JUST MISSED OUT ON WHAT IS ESSENTIALLY KINO TO YOU?! D: GODDAMNIT WHY CAN’T I HAVE THAT SIMILAR WHIMISICAL FUN AND JOY?!?!
Also the sentiment about love. You’re preaching to the choir, even to an emo-boy sitting in his room listening to Alt Rock, and sometimes some Flawed Mangoes while laying in his own bed. Love is something people should really feel and experience. (Though I understand if there’s some that have their reasons as to why they want to be the lone wolf.) Sometimes, I wonder if I’ll ever get that feeling again, it’s been roughly 4/5/6 years since... I think I’ve lost count...
Also recommend me some games! I wanna try them out!! >:0
Okay so if it's Otome games, and you've never played any in your life. Here are my recs.
1. Collar x Malice: This is a crime drama/thriller where the main heroine is kidnapped by the terrorists that have Shinjuku under quarantine with how many attacks they got away with in the city. They're a cult-like organization that wants to overthrow the federal government and purge anyone that fits their definition of evil. She gets a poisonous collar locked around her neck, and she's forced to investigate the X-Day terror incidents that the terrorist caused with a ragtag group of ex-cop detectives. Which of course, you can date.
You work with one guy on a specific case, and if you choose the right answers, you can get a happy ending with them! Otome Kitten is the perfect website for you to help you play, cause trust me, some of these guys aren't very obvious with what they want. T_T
2. Period Cube: Shackles of Amadeus: This is a fantasy game with the slightest Sci-Fi elements. You play as a girl who gets trapped in a virtual MMO with death as a consequence of dying in-game. And then you have to band together with your friends to figure out how to defeat the game and escape to the real world!
Just like Sword Art Online honestly. The guys are cute, and the game has a really simple visual cue that plays whenever you pick the right dialogue option. I recommend starting with the blue-haired Angel guy as your first route, since he's extremely easy to read. And he's also just such a sweetheart. Omg. I love him. He's so pathetic and cute~!
3. Amnesia: No, not the horror game that everyone played on YouTube in 2014. This is an Otome game where a girl gets struck by a car and loses all her memories cause a Spirit boy fused with her mind by accident. So now she has a little guy narrating everything she does and gives her advice on how to not get caught or taken advantage of with Amnesia. It's a bit annoying to not hear what she personally thinks, but the tension in the routes are really good! There's only four guys, so it's not so complicated.
4. Bad Apple Wars: Okay, so I only really started playing this one because it had the words Bad Apple in it, and I love that song. BUT! It's so good OMG. This is a game where the heroine dies right before she starts high school, and she's forced to go to a purgatory high school to figure out if she deserves to go to the afterlife or not. If she becomes a "Good Apple" and follows every single rule, she will lose her individuality and become a mindless drone in the crowd. But if she becomes a "Bad Apple", she can keep her identity, but be forced to fight the school prefects everyday and never go to the afterlife. And she can date five different boys from both sides. It's so much fun!
I'm really excited to learn which game you'll like the best. Whether it's for music, art, gameplay, or actual narrative. Oh! And romance too! You gotta tell me which guy is best for which heroine in the games you'll play!
Ah! Before I forget! I played all of these games on my PS Vita, but Collar x Malice and Amnesia did get ports on the Nintendo Switch! So you can play it there. Of course, I prefer playing on the modded PS Vita, but maybe you can get Vita3K on your computer and emulate it there? Either way, I hope you have a fun time! Please enjoy the games~! ^^
