I joined this site quite recently and I was looking at this friendrewind etiquette blog post, and one of the things it said was to never message new friends directly, especially if you haven't talked to them through blogs / bulletins / all that first.
As an introvert(ambivert maybe?), I get it. I get needing your peace and quiet and not wanting to talk to strangers. But is this not first and foremost a social site?
I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be speaking over people have been here for longer and maybe it's because I come from spacehey where it's normal to just shoot any new friend an IM if you feel like it but thats always been one of my reasons for joining these kinda sites. I love it when my friends send me messages even if we haven't interacted before other than sending each other a friend request! I want to make new friends! In fact I prefer that so much to just adding eachother and then never talking. If someone has on their profile "I don't want any IMs", thats a totally fair boundary to have, but in general are people not here to make friends?
I don't know, what do you guys think? Pls feel free to share your input, I wanna hear different perspectives.

I’ve already written to two people with common interests and I got ignored by both…
bleh!
I just don’t bother atp bc it gets really awkward quickly? Which I can’t blame others for bc it’s natural but honestly it’s just wasted effort to chat now</3
ATP if someone texts me I will respond but I will practically never initiate because I have an ego too. ;(((

Usually in IMs the conversation ends after a "how are you". A lot of people just don't know what to say after that, you know their interests but you don't know their personality fully. That's just my experience tho, and as someone that is shy, it's why I take longer to respond.
Yeah, thats fair enough! I always try and come up with other topics 2 talk about but its hard
