[DEVLOG #0] Why document the behind-the-scenes of "Les Jeunes Noirs à l'Épée"

Les Jeunes Noirs à l'Épée

(Young Black Men at the Sword)

If you are on this profile, it means you belong to this corner of the web where people still take the time to create, connect, and customize their own spaces.

Today, I am launching this devblog to open a direct window into the behind-the-scenes of my show, produced by Collectif ARMACRÉ.

What is the show about ?

Les Jeunes Noirs à l'Épée is a 45-minute wordless performative solo show.

The starting point of this creation comes from an everyday reality: that constant feeling of being simultaneously respected, preserved, and suspected.

The show examines the invisible yet deeply real legacy left by four centuries of the slave trade, colonization, and institutional racism.

The project centers around three core pillars :

Double Consciousness (W.E.B. Du Bois, 1903): The feeling of always looking at oneself through the eyes of others.

The Sword as an Ambivalent Symbol: Both a weapon of conquered freedom (resistance, revolution) and the weight of history carried on one's shoulders.

The Body as a Living Archive: The way flesh, muscle, and posture preserve the genetic and cultural memory of our ancestors.

Why host this Devblog on FriendRewind ?

Why pick an independent, retro network to document a theatrical project?

Escaping filters and lissom algorithms: Modern social media thrives on fast-paced feeds and algorithms. The theatre we defend with Collectif ARMACRÉ is raw, human, and grounded in reality. I wanted a space to take the time to detail the process without chasing clicks.

Sharing creative chaos with full transparency: A show doesn't appear out of thin air. There are doubts, set design research (like our choice of a two-sided / bifrontal staging), physical rehearsal work, music selection, and technical setups.

Building a community: This devblog is an invitation to connect. In each episode, I will share the behind-the-scenes of the creation process.

Interesting project, i'm rooting on you for this. Is it gonna be a show in a theater piece, is it gonna be posted online?

This is a play I created entirely from scratch. It's my graduation project for my acting school. I've already performed it once, and it was selected for the end-of-year festival hosted by my school every year. I thought it would be great to share the project's evolution and give a behind-the-scenes look.
