My Thoughts On "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells

I actually finished the book last week, listening to it as an audiobook. I know that's not technically "reading" the book, but I truly have no time to sit down and read, much less the attention span. It's much more convenient to me to listen to audiobooks while I'm at work. I'll try not to spoil it if I can help it.

Personally I thought the book would have much more action. There were a few moments, and those moments were rather captivating, but I thought it would be more of a "war of the worlds." The entire story takes place between a few cities in Britain, the rest of the world only being imagined as to what happened to it. Most of the main characters spend their time standing astonished at the martins, almost never do they consider a plan to retaliate. I never felt any truly dire stakes, nor was I rapt with anxiety at what would happen next. Though the ending was so absurdly obvious that it honestly felt pretty satisfying.

I liked the science in the book, though the science fiction doesn't make much sense to me. I suppose I'd describe the main idea as being what happens when humans are met with a force stronger than themselves, and that says about how humanity views itself. Probably simple, but that's my idea. Nevertheless, I'd come back to the book again someday to reconsider my thoughts. I actually just finished Brave New World by Huxley today, and I plan to describe my thoughts on that book, too.
