Wrong place at the wrong time - the start of heavens gate

I often find myself thinking how strange the beggining of heavens gate cult is. If Marshall Applewhite (Do) never had a psychotic breakdown while doing a musical rehershal he would never been sent to a mental hospital and he would probably never meet the nurse Bonnie Nettles (Ti).

Like if that never happened would they ever cross paths? Would they ever form a bond that would lead to such tragic outcome? I wonder
