bass guitars

i'm thinking about starting to play the bass, any suggestions of brands or types?? :)

squier by fender make great affordable basses! the one I started on was a squier and felt very good for the price (250-400 range). i think they even have some packages where you can get the bass with an amp and cord but I'm not sure
