i don't like rap since it's not my thing, so i can't interact with you? :/

rap not being your thing, and not at least being able to get down to some rap music is different. people who refuse to even give rap a chance, and actively shit on it, are racist tbh. so it depends on if you actually gave it a chance, and like some songs but it's just not what you listen to normally. ORRR if you haven't given it a change and hate on it regularly

oh okay, how are they racist for not wanting to listen to a music genre? (which in this case rap). just genuinely curious as i've never heard this from someone before.

also, what's wrong with being a centrist or a liberal?

by staticpr0cess; ; Report

not wanting to listen to rap music is racist because it is a genre that is DEEPLY rooted in black culture. most people who don't listen to rap music listen to stuff like nu metal, which is more palatable for the average white rock fan, who doesn't like rap. it's always "it's only about violence, and drugs and hating women" when it's done by black people, but when it's done by white people, especially in a more rock-y way, they say "this is the ONLY good rapper", or "i don't like rap but this is so good", etc. hate for rap is a micro aggression, whether it's conscious or not.

liberalism is just a right wing ideology repackaged as "leftism", even though it is still pro establishment, pro authoritarian, pro government, and these ideas are often held by white people who don't like rap music, or cross the street when a black person walks by, or believes that "leftist infighting" is a bigger iseue than it actually is.

centrism is even worse as rather than being strongly against fascism, authoritarianism, etc. it's people saying "i can see both sides." when asked to pick between a racist and a normal person they'd say "let's hear them out-" or "they've got a good point." it's fucking stupid.

well i don't blame you. all sides suck, are exhausting, and i wish people just thought for themselves instead of what social media or what cable news tells them to think. and i personally don't hate rap (whether it's sung from a black or white person), it just doesn't do anything for me. and people who do hate it can be of any political background. btw i like how you explain your reasoning, respect for you. :)

by staticpr0cess; ; Report

i think not picking a side is spineless, and cowardly. sure, whatever, it's exhausting, but i would stay politically informed, and be EXTREMELY against right wing fascist scumbags, while being exhausted, than say "i don't give a fuck.", "it's exhausting", "all sides are bad" (etc.), because that is what makes someone a poser. you can't claim any alternative subculture while being a loser who doesn't even try and calls "all sides bad", when clearly one is worse than the other.

yes, people who don't like rap can be of any political background, however, it is still a micro aggression, and one that normally comes from white people who are right wing. the fact that you don't understand what micro aggressions are at TWENTY YEARS OLD is insane, please educate yourself.

i agree with you that it is exhausting and people should be politically informed, and that one side is worse than the other, or there's a lesser evil (though that can be subjective), and yeah everyone should be against fascism (duh!). i personally don't think that saying "all sides suck" and the such makes someone a poser because two things can be true at once: you can still be part of a side and for it to still suck for you, whether it's the people in it and how they express their politics, etc. and yes, politics is exhausting no doubt about that, especially if you see it through social media.

now the last sentence in the first paragraph i don't know if that was directed to me (forgive me if that wasn't your intent), and im saying this respectfully and kindly, but i never claimed nor am i part of any alternative subcultures since im more than one thing and i hate labels ≠ poser. maybe it's because of my pfp you assumed that, i don't know.

so i don't think disliking rap is a microaggression, or any other genre in this matter. i know some black people who have very little to no interest in rap and mainly like other genres. and i also know lots of people who are left-wing that are the same way. i don't think it's accurate to frame it as a mostly one side thing. maybe your experience with this is different since i live in a big city which obviously has lots of diverse people, though i don't know. so i believe that people who don't happen to like it because it isn't interesting isn't a bad thing, but people who don't like it because it's a predominantly black genre, then yes it's a problem. but yeah, not everyone is gonna like some genres mainly (and hopefully not because of some prejudice like the i said above) due to music taste and that's just how it is. you can't make someone like yoko ono, you know because she's just the worst artist ever and sounds like she's in labor LOL, but if you like her then i respect that, anyways.

and i know what microaggressions are, i don't think it's right to assume that i don't. anyways, if you wanna agree to disagree, that's perfectly okay! :) i won't think you're a bad person for disagreeing, and not everyone will agree with either of us on stuff and that's expected. i've learned to not be so mad and defensive when someone has different opinions than me. i also don't like black and white thinking of stuff when there's much nuance (unless it's related to something like genocide, it's definitely only two options you can pick from with no nuance since it won't make sense in this case).
