I know so people will say the worst thing he can say is no but, if u see him daily alot drop some hint if u see him occasionally or is not in your home room/class just start talking a far bit and then tell him.
I think dropping a hint is probably the best if u r scared of ruining the friendship but I think a good friend would still be ok with being friends with u after saying no in the worst case

Like a sentence that could imply it. You know how a lot of guys feel like they have to say no homo after every compliment. Or maybe if he tells u he completed a favour thru text reply "ILLLYYY". That could make him question a bit, if he doesn't react too displeased, tell him, otherwise tell him it's platonic cuz so many people use it platonically in situations like a favour. U just gotta have him not initially knowing if ur exaddarating or not.
