I want to make myself a server since a long time.
Early this summer I did put my hands on an old laptop to use during traveling because the one I have feels too damageable.
Currently I am thinking if should I make the old laptop into a server and start carry the other one again to dorm and back.
I just can't decide if I should start doing it :^

if you want a server, a tower will be a better choice than a laptop because you can leave it plugged in all the the time without damaging the battery. my recommendation for doing it cheap and low pressure? trawl through computer recycling parts stores or just ask people around you for computers they don't want and use those to build a tower. servers don't need really good processing the same way high budget gaming pcs do, so scavenged parts can totally work :) even old laptops will be fine for parts harvesting (mostly drives).

Buy a thinkpad or find an old one
