Little Space Fact

I wanted to blog today, but don't really have something to talk about, so I'm gonna share a little fact about space I thought was pretty neat.

When it comes to determining if Venus or Mercury is closest to earth, Mercury by technicality is closer to Earth even if Venus is in-between the two planets in the solar system. The reason behind this is all due to the fact that Mercury and Venus have different orbital speeds, Mercury being faster. So when Venus is orbiting the Sun, its proximity to Earth is often very far compared to Mercury where its constantly orbiting the sun in just a matter of months, passing by Earth more often than Venus is. So because Mercury so close to Earth most of the time, Mercury is considered closer to Earth than Venus. This picture kind of explains it.

At the time of this post, Venus is closer to Earth though :alienfinger:
