So its come to my attention that this site was built with vibe coding, i.e. some form of AI. I want to be blunt, I'm against generative AI and sensible people should be as well.
However, I'm aware that BlueSky is another site that uses vibe coding, and people still use the site, even anti-AI advocates, and that's because there're no other viable options, Twitter has gone to shit and nobody's willing to make the move to Mastodon.
As far as FriendRewind on my end, it's my only viable option as far as MySpace dupes. SpaceHey is no longer available in my state (likely owed to the meatshield the kids act or whatever crap is going on in the EU), and FriendProject has ironically gone the way of MySpace, nobody uses nor cares about it much anymore.
Thing is, it's sad that this came out about FriendRewind, because I do love the aesthetics of old MySpace. For now, unless SpaceHey miraculously becomes accessible in my area again or another good MySpace clone crops up, I'll settle for this, much like how those with sense settled for BlueSky despite its own faults.
With that, fuck AI, only thing keeping sites like these afloat is the lack of other great options, I had registered before learning about the vibe coding detail.

Ugh. I hate how so many good sites and apps like these go to shit or are built shittily because people don’t care enough to make their sites work. I do hope people make more smaller friended apps and websites like this because it’s so quiet on here sometimes and bigger social media sites are really toxic but apparently no one cares enough to make one properly
Oh tell me about it. I'd love to see more humble retro-like social media sites. It seems most people would rather take the path of least resistance than put in the effort.
