Hii, I really want to dye my hair to a skunk hair kind of, but I have no idea what im going to do..
Ive watched a few tutorials so I know kind of the steps, but I were wondering if you guys had any tips or product to recommend??
Also my hair is this very dark brown like you might think it's black, but in the sunlight you can clearly see how brown it is. it has never been died and I have a sensitive scalp. Im going to either keep the stripes blond or dye it purple.ย

OMG HAHAHA IM ALSO LOOKING AT SKUNK(ish idk, i just searched it up rn and its kinda what i was planning to do lol) HAIR FOR THIS SUMMER!
i was planning on doing really chunky, dark magenta highlights with a racoon tail on the front/first highlight (left side). i was debating on a leopard print or a racoon tail, but bc i'm not planning on getting a hair dye my shade, i decided a racoon tail would be easier.ย
the reason why i had only decided to finally dye my hair now is because my parents (my mum.) are really against dying hair anything but natural colours in a natural style. blonde is pushing it, its probably the most they would allow me lol.ย
what i have finallyyyy decided is that i'm going to use a hair lightener but no bleach. if i use bleach, it would be reaally obvious that i dyed my hair and i would never hear the end of it. as my hair is highk really dark, and virgin, and like whatever, so im kinda worried that the dye wont show.. yeah. but i'm not that bothered i guess because if it doesnt show much then my my parents wouldn't be as pissed. my original plan was to say i got a temporary dye, but then get a semi-permanent, then when i wash it out, i was gonna pretend to be shocked that "oh no!!!!! the colour didnt wash out!!!! that!! is!! so sad!!!!!". however bc im gonna get a dye with a hair lightener first (which is permanent) im not a 100% sure on what im gonna do lol.
for the actual dyes im going to use, im probably going to use the Crazy Colour Cyamide (ยฃ6 smth in Superdrug) for the top up, to keep it pink but for the first bit.. im not too sure. i was looking at the Loreal HiColour range as it contains lighteners, but im not sure it has the magenta i want ๐.
imma still look around but everyone is like mixing red with smth (i forgot what it was) and thats probably kinda outside my price range. yeah. idk man

If it helps your parents prob won't be as mad for a while, they will prob get used to the hair soon and won't be as mad, maybe the first days a bit lol.ย

unfortunately, i severely underestimated just how hard it is to partition the hair correctly :')
that was struggle 1. 2, i dyed my hair, BUT IT BARELY SHOWED UP!! THOSE PARTS OF MY HAIR ARE KINDA (just barely) LIGHTENED, BUT THATS IT. it was literally until only like 5 minutes ago, i found the massive info booklet inside and decided to have a little skim read of it. there, i found that it says (really small, at the bottom of the sheet) that they dont recommend mixing hair lightener with their product. GRAHHHHOMGWHYDIDIONLYREASLISETHATJUSTNOW!!
and im not 100% sure if this dye is bleach friendly either, bc just above that it said that certain dyes from the same brand can be used on bleached hair, but they used names like idk G29 and i couldnt be assed to check the name of this dye and whatever... and because they named certain dyes to be safe, that implies that the others arent safe.
next time, im probably gonna just ask my mum if i can go, then only go MYSELF (bc i would have to go to an alt hair salon, and my mum lowk hates any alt aesthetics and people who dress in them) and just get it there. this is bc even if i was able to do it properly next time, i really, really, really, cba to part my hair. oh my gosh that was hard. i might just say, "oh im gonna go out with friends today!!", then instead just go to the hairdressers. omg i hate partitioning my hair

Not so much tips as it is just general advice
I assume as you have dark hair that you're bleaching it first (depending on what brand you're using you might not have to, i just have in my experience) so make sure you're careful with it especially around your scalp. With bleach I'd normally recommend doing your roots LAST bc if it's on your roots too long it can be rly damaging and worst case if its not on long enough it just isn't as light as you'd want it to be.
Obvi IDK what brand you're using, but look into people who have used the same brand as you if you can, for example the ones i use (Schwarzkopf LIVE, purple) is really good but always comes out a couple shades darker than it claims, so just make sure you're aware of things like that.
COLD WATER. The next couple times you shower you're gonna want to use colder water as the hotter the water it is the more it'll fade the dye. If you can get some colour protectant shampoo to leave it vibrant but this isn't necessary because it doesn't make a huuuge difference, atleast it hasn't for me. Head and shoulders shampoo makes it fade quite fast tho so I'd recommend not using that atleast for a little while after dying it

Ive read a little and people say I should not use cold water since it will shock you or something like that, do you experience that??

Oh yeah if you have it like really cold it can do, also sorry thays my bad for wording my advice poorly: you don't want it like ice cold, and when you sre first rinsing it out its ok for it to be warm or whatever, but when you subsequently wash your hair (as in the next shower you take AFTER having had your hair dyed for a bit) you'd want to use slightly cooler water to keep it from fading

Depending on how you do your hair though temperature mjght not matter that much: it won't really affect the bleach at all (or atleast hasn't in my experience) and the fade difference is only really noticeable for vibrant colours.
But yeah ig as this is your first time doing it, use slightly warmer water to see whats comfortable and then only use cooler if you think its ok for you? Honestly its a lot of trial and error for this sort of thing

to add on, you just want to use a water temperature that just barely warms you up for your hair, even if it's not dyed. using hot water on your hair in general can damage it
