Film Review: Project Hail Mary (2026)

I have no idea why I didn't watch this movie sooner. God I wish I had seen it in theaters.

I really enjoyed this. I am not a sci-fi fan but oh god did I love this. I have seen so much about this movie through friends and mutuals so I did not go in blind. What I did not expect was how emotionally invested I got. Rocky and his backstory and how he bonded with Grace just really got me idk. The one scene after grace retrieved the samples from Adrian UGH OH MY HEART!!!!!!! This genuinely got me emotional, my poor heart.

Ryan Gosling was great as Grace, duh. I really like how he was able to play the "just some guy in a crazy ass situation" role so well. Like. He was great. Nothing I thought about hasn't already been said by a ton of people. I really thought it was great. Also, James Oritz as the voice AND MAIN PUPPETEER of Rocky, oh my goodness. Okay, Rocky being a puppet is so important to me I am so happy he wasn't entirely CGI, I love practical effects and I love the use of puppets in film. Genuinely it brought so much charm to the film to have him be a 50/50 puppet/cgi. Anyway I really loved Oritz's performance, I don't think there was anyone better for the role. I liked the Meryl Streep cameo though lol.

I thought this film was phenomenal GOD I should've watched it sooner. I get it now!!!! I get the hype!!!!! Oh and the MUSIC THE SOUNDTRACK!!!!!

Okay. My final verdict.

I tend to skew my reviews more positive but genuinely I believe this deserves a 10/10
