Okay, so I'd been meaning to get around to this one for a while now. For some context (regarding myself): my grandma had dementia, so I was interested in how this film portrayed it, obviously through a horror lens AND a found footage kind of format too!
I am not one for jumpscare horror. Usually I find jumpscares to be kind of mid. This was not mid. I was unsettled for most of the movie and the jumpscares got some genuine screams out of me!
But yeah, this one was deeply spooky to me, especially once it started ramping up. The final sequence really had me invested. Alzheimers already is a horror story on its own, but taking this kind of spin on it was really interesting. What's actually going on and why isn't explained until later, but Deborah Logan (the focus of the documentary the MCs are making, also also the villain but not really) is possessed and that's like, the main plot point so it's not spoiling anything.
It also reminded me of the fact that my parents are going to die one day which is also horribly upsetting (much like the character of Sarah (Deborah's daughter), I'm an only child with parents who are getting up there in age).
I really enjoy found footage/documentary style movies so this was already kind of up my alley. I feel like if you don't like that sort of thing, you're not gonna enjoy this one. But I liked it.
7/10
Dear god, not something to watch before bed.
And remember, if spooky stuff is happening in your house at night and you wanna figure out what: you CAN turn on the lights! That was my main gripe. JUST TURN ON THE LIGHTS! YOU CAN FLIP A LIGHTSWITCH!
