FriendRewind New User's Guide: Core Site Features

if you're reading this, welcome, and i hope you stay around here! however, a lot of people who have never used this form of social media before, perhaps you included, may be lost on FriendRewind's core functions, so this guide will tell you everything you need to know to get started.

i had previously written a guide like this for spacehey, so i thought the next best thing would be to adapt it for this site! here we go!

Guide Intro

i will straight up say that this site has a very high amount of features. what you will want to focus your time on is profile customization, to help others get to know you, and browsing users/posts, to help you get to know others. forming connections this way was the core principle which social media was based on. after all, that's the reason it's even called social media.

Profile Customization

during signup, you'll be prompted to pick out the information that will show up on your profile in user searches (username, profile picture, optional country and region). the rest happens in the profile editor. here you can fill out a bio, your interests and such other things. you can also add custom styling! we will touch on this later.

ETIQUETTE TIP: other people are much more likely to accept your friend request if they know anything about who you are, especially if you have interests in common! my profile isn't anything fancy yet, i only have some basic style changes for now as well as all my info filled out, but i believe that is enough for me and others to start. it helping others get to know you is more important than how it looks.

Browsing Users & Posts

the Browse tab is for looking through users. here you can see recently registered folks or the people currently online. it's a nice way to find active users quickly!

posts, however, are split into many categories:

• Blog tab: for longform posts, comments go under each post
• Forum tab: an oldschool forum type space. you have categories for which you can post topics, under which you can post your replies or continue threads of preexisting replies.
• Bulletins (More tab): for small microblogs or miscellaneous thoughts. plug your stuff! only your existing friendslist sees these and it's a nice way to passively bond.
• Groups (More tab): i don't know how they work here, but the idea is like the Forum but in a more catered space for a specific subject. has voice chat??? whuuuurrrr???

go look through these and see if you find a favorite! i like the forums the most, they're nice and cozy... maybe you'll end up interacting with someone through those forms of posting and they'll friend you and it's cool and neat.

ETIQUETTE TIP: DMs exist, i don't use them so i won't go over them. some people like them and some don't! be cautious and ask before sending a DM, especially if you'd be talking to that person for the first time. the openendedness of social media is a lot less awkward than private messaging, they're like two different worlds for some people.

ok that's it. this isn't exactly an indepth guide, but it probably helps those intimidated by all the buttons needing some basic guidance on what sections to look through. my tip for you however is to try out all of them! there's like image and video hosting and some games and other bullshit you can do. just go through that and have fun, maybe you'll like it and then you can tell me i suck for excluding peak from my core features guide. bye! will write html stuff next
