Gone Girl (2014) Review

@giawatchedthat film reviews #2

SPOILER WARNING!!!

Gone Girl (2014)

Directed by: David Fincher

Starring: Rosamund Pike & Ben Affleck

Plot: "With his wife’s disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it’s suspected that he may not be innocent."

My rating: 5/5 Stars

2 fincher movies in a row? coincidence? i think Yes actually i didn't plan on rewatching this tonight. BUT I'M FUCKING GLAD I DID!!! what a movie!

gone girl has a very special place in my heart. it's my second favorite david fincher film, which is crazy considering how many great ones he has under his belt. se7en, the social network, zodiac, fight club (my favorite)... all directed by the same guy? and now he's making netflix exclusive slop and directing tarantino sequels? what the hell happened! (sorry to go on an unrelated tangent but that pisses me off so bad LMFAO)

i've seen gone girl twice before tonight, but this viewing was especially memorable because i watched it with my mom who had never seen it before (some parts of this were Very awkward to sit through with her but she loved it so it's okay.)

this is one of the first movies that come to mind when i think about plot twists that genuinely shocked me. it honestly took me 2 watches to even fully appreciate this movie because of how much i didn't see that shit coming! (much like fight club.......)

rosamund pike as amy dunne is without a doubt one of the greatest performances i've ever seen in a piece of media. the cool girl monologue? one of my favorite scenes EVER.  let her play more somewhat evil women pleaseeeeee.

the story amy put together is so fucking impressive, not just from the perspective of the characters in the movie but from a writers perspective. full credit to the author gillian flynn for writing that book because i don't know how you even begin to come up with all the meticulous little details of amy's plan. actually insane. i need to read the book now

gone girl reminds me a lot of another one of my favorite movies, phantom thread. they are very different plot-wise, but (especially towards the end of phantom thread) the characters of alma/amy and reynolds/nick parallel each other SO WELL. two failing relationships where the wife 'tames' the husband through extreme measures to weaken their power and keep the relationship, which the husband is kinda into it by the end of both movies? hell yeah i guess?

i know i talked about rosamund before, but i really love everyones acting in this movie. margot is probably my second favorite character under amy and her actress played her perfectly. also ben affleck is GREAT at playing a hateable guy.

not sure what else to say tbh, i just love this movie a lot. my third movie review will probably Not (?) be another david fincher movie lol. #amydidnothingwrong #nickdunneisaloser

Kudos: 2
