So yes, I know this is a hot take but let me explain. I recently did some traveling via train and saw a lot of it while on the train and in the city i traveled to, and in a very weird way it kinda was beautiful to me
like yes it is vulgar and yes it is technically vandalism, but like, someone put that there. someone had the guts, the dedication, and the skill to go and put whatever it was there, even if it was 100% illegible or vulgar. There is human emotion in that no matter how shallow whatever it is. And some of it is genuine art. I see things that are mural level on walls that definitely were spraypainted but are still sick as hell
But yes, i know this is a hot take, and i know grafiti can be bad at times, i just wanted to share this opinion (let me know if you agree or have thoughts ^^)

This is a hot take :D 😭 I had no idea. Where I live there are designated areas for people to graffiti and its totally legal in these zones.
I think it is art
I wanna do it one day but I don't have spray paints 🥀

Genuinely never cared if it was illegal cause it's gorgeous and fun and not to mention all the time and dedication!! Also most places painted over as vandalism are either just obviously street walls,abandoned places that literally no one gaf abt or buildings belonging to facists if they aren't huge known billionaires obviously lol but in my town if theres a facist or biggot you know it cause their place of work if its some place like a gas station they own then you typically see it getting vandalized and I don't rlly find it to be a huge problem🤷🏻♀️ I can see how its annoying to some (maybe) but it doesn't harm anyone unless its actually a place in use as a living space or open work establishment,yk?
I've learnt that most people who don't like graffiti tend to be influenced by those who think its cruel and inappropriate or have gotten it done to them but all art is beautiful and graffiti is sick asf when its not hurting anyone (i think if the person it 'hurts' (obviously not psychically but like emotionally Ig) is a bad person and the artist had a reason to do it then its rlly not bad but maybe that's too hot of a take??)
Not to mention it's kinda pioneered by Black and Latino youth and local street gangs marking their territories on subway cars and walls from what i know (which is cool history i personally think) and then punks heavily adopted and adapted graffiti in the mid-to-late 1970s to develop their own distinct style of it and i think that's really awesome! Who doesn't love punks?? They're friendly and if they're a real punk they tend to be known for protecting the queer youth and women in danger on streets:)) Then the name "graffiti" is just satisfying to hear
