how i made my little cardboard mahito standee

hi all. yasha here. middle name kawaii last name mahito. i finally got around to making a... tutorial of sorts if you wanna call it that cuz i kept forgetting. anyway as someone who dislikes overconsumption and consumerism i thought sharing with the world my diy stuff would be pretty cool. bonus if you're also into japanese media like i swear there's little to no merch that's cheap and accessible that i can find online so why not make it myself. LOL. also yumeship warning to anyone who's uncomfortable with that.
anyway one night i finished eating chocolate and still had the cardboard? paperboard? box so i thought of making a mahito standee. took like 2 hours. i mainly used a pencil to sketch, oil pastels to color and a random ink pen for the lineart. if you can draw it would be pretty difficult not to make any noticeable mistakes since it's traditional. if you can't draw then just print out what you want for the standee and cut the cardboard to the art :p

fucked up the lineart by accident mb gng. i could have used watercolor or colored markers for this but didn't know if it would look good or not. idk be safe than sorry i didnt want him looking messy.
general rule of coloring traditionally is to color the lighter colors first and leave darker ones later cuz... possible smudging. my oil pastels had fat as fuck ends so i used q-tips to smear the colors out <- also how i did the blush albeit i think i went overboard with it. LOL. also used a sharp edge like a thin ruler or something to scrap the oil pastels away a bit to get the right colors and to draw the lines in his shirt. you can hardly see them but they're there.
after i was done with the art i just cut him out and used another side of the box for the standee platform. i didn't take any pictures for this one cuz i got lazy. basically cut a small opening on the platform for the supporting piece to go through ykwim. actually let me jus draw it.

this worked for me so idk. also i used double-sided tape for this cuz it would look cleaner,,, maybe more durable i think?

anyway he's done look at how cute he is. not even 8cm tall in this.

now the longevity is what i'm concerned about but whatever man it's paper, and it's free. so... some people would choose a glossier and cleaner look by sticking clear plastic to the cutout, also acts as a protective layer for the art. i didn't do that here but you can if you wanna.
